St. Patty's 5k

All last week was beautiful and sunny, not necessarily warm, but sunny! So I wake up Saturday morning to RAIN, I am suppose to run my 5K, I don't want to run in the rain. Anyway, I get up and take my shower, wake up the rest of the family, so they can cheer me on. Of course, the kids were grumpy and didn't want to get up to go stand around in the cold rain, but I made them! :) (I am such a good Mom)

We get to the Dock Street Grill about 7:45 and I check in. Did I mention it's raining and COLD! We decided to sit in the van and wait until the crowd starts to gather. I am now getting a little nervous and wondering what have I gotten myself into.

About 8:45 the crowd starts gathering so we get out and I get in the crowd and wait. Meanwhile some guy is at the microphone probably telling us what would be happening, but it was so muffled I don't think anyone understood him. We then all gather out in the street and the horn blows. I am towards the back of the crowd so I don't get in the way of all those diehard runner. The first stretch of the run was up hill...not really what I expected, it then leveled off. My goal for the race was to finish in 40 minutes or less, I wasn't to concerned about where I placed, but when I started passing people I felt better just knowing I wasn't going to be the dead last. I was able to jog the whole time which felt really good. There were two ladies speed walking, that I really wanted to pass,, but man they were walking fast. I thought okay I will pick up my speed at the end, well wouldn't you know it, they started to run, so I never was able to pass them.

I finished the race in 38:52 minutes and really had a good time. Such a good time I have already signed up for my next 5K for April.

Today I post a picture of my running shoes. Why, you say? Well, for the past couple of years I have been wanting the run a 5K. I have never been a runner, but have always wanted be. I couple of times I have started to couch 2 5K program, but never completed it, only getting to the part where you run for maybe 5 minutes straight.

Then this new year rolled around and of course I set some new goals, I was going to try running again. This time I decided to just try running for 5 minutes and then keep adding time. Then I wanted to make it 1 mile...then 2miles. Then this last week I went for it and ran 3.1miles and I also did it in a pretty good time for me, 37 minutes.

So, today I post a picture of my running shoes because I have signed up for my first offical 5K. I will be running in the St Patty's Day 5K on March 14th. I am really looking forward to this and hope that is will not be my last. I am very proud of myself and know that I can do whatever I set my mind to.

The Chicks

It has been awhile since I posted since we know have chicks! We continued to get eggs and one of the hens decided she wanted to be a Mama. She sat and waited paitiently and now has 3 chicks! Oh, they are so cute! She has more eggs but I am not sure that they are going to hatch?? I went out this morning and one of the eggs had broken open that had no chick...can you say SMELLY!! Rotten egg is not what I want to smell first thing in the morning. YUCK!

Our first little chick! After the first chick hatched, I decided to bring some eggs inside so we could watch them hatch. We had three that had started to peck there way out. Unfortunately, one died in the process. However, Abby thought is was facinating to open the egg after it passed and take a closer look. It is truly amazing how they can fit inside of the egg all scrunched up.

1:30am I hear the dogs going nuts so I get up to see what they're barking at. Then I hear peeping so I went to check on the chicks and this is what I found. The yellow chick must have just hatched, it was still a little wet and all wobbly. The black chick is only half way out.

In the morning when I woke they were both hatched!
They are oh so tiny!

I had just finished cleaning the coop today and the chicks got up on their Mama after I put them back in. I thought it was pretty cute! The yellow chick is under Mama Hen so you can't see it.
